Can't go wrong with that. We're looking forward to playing this show.

In the early 1960s when the emerging British Invasion bands began interpreting Chicago-style electric blues, young white musicians in Chicago had similar ideas, but better resources to draw upon. This movement (popularized by a Hyde Park native, the late Paul Butterfield) saw young, often integrated bands playing alongside blues legends in South Side clubs. The most enduring act to emerge from that scene was The Siegel-Schwall Band, featuring Corky Siegel on harmonica and piano and Jim Schwall on guitar. Playing their regular gig at Pepper’s Lounge in Bronzeville, the band shared the stage with Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Howlin’ Wolf and scores of others, and by the late sixties they were an important recording and touring group. During this time period they performed the genre-defying “Three Pieces for Blues Band and Symphony Orchestra” the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra (Siegel continues to explore the crossroads of classical and American roots music with his Chamber Blues project). Though inactive from the mid-70s until the mid-80s, the band has reemerged as a crowd-pleasing favorite. With a lineup rounded out by A.A.C.M. member/Sun Ra collaborator Rollo Radford on bass and Chess Records legend Sam Lay on drums, the 21st Century Siegel-Schwall Band is as potent as ever, and we are honored to welcome them back to the South Side.
